In Memory of Mr. George Wein

The Cincinnati Music Festival and the Santangelo Group would like to pay its respects to George Wein - our dear friend that founded the Newport Jazz Festival. Mr. Wein was a pioneer in the Festival Industry and among other things, started the French Lick Jazz Festival which quickly outgrew French Lick, Indiana in 1961. In partnership with Dino Santangelo, the Festival was moved to Cincinnati, OH. Thus, in 1962 the Cincinnati Music Festival was born out of a vision dreamed up by Mr Wein. Dino’s brother Joe Santangelo has carried on this partnership and friendship with Mr Wein since Dino’s passing in 1986. He will be truly missed and never forgotten.
